Botswana Agate is a type of banded agate that is primarily composed of chalcedony, a mineral in the quartz family. It is formed in volcanic lava, where pockets of gas are trapped and solidify into cavities. Over time, as water flows through these cavities, minerals like chalcedony begin to form, layering on top of each other to create the distinctive banding pattern of Botswana Agate. The colors of the stone are a result of various impurities and trace minerals present during the formation process.
